Monika Helfer wins Angelus 2024

The winner Angelus Central European Literature Award 2024 is the Austrian writer Monika Helfer. She received the award for her novel Die Bagage [Rabble], translated into Polish by Arkadiusz Żychliński and published by Wydawnictwo Filtry. The verdict was announced by Michał Nogaś and Justyna Sobolewska, members of the jury, during a gala organized on 19 October 2024.

The translation award went to Arkadiusz Żychliński, translator of the wining novel, and the Natalya Gorbanevskaya readers’ award was presented to Tatiana Țîbuleac, author of the book Grădina de sticlă [The Glass Garden], translated into Polish by Kazimierz Jurczak and published by Książkowe Klimaty & Oficyna Literacka Noir sur Blanc. The Moldovan/Romanian writer is invited to Wrocław for a 3-month residency.
